8/3/13 – Doing the Guggenheim

It was snowing this morning which made walking down the road to catch a cab a challenge – especially when one is wearing glasses. I could have done with little windscreen wipers.
I met Sue at the Guggenheim to view the Kentai and Kandinsky Exhibitions. Kentai Exhibition was a movement begun in Japan in the 1960s when young artists were protesting the suffocating life of traditional Japan and the damage done to the environment from years of industrial development. Very out there stuff. Kandinsky was sublime and Sue and I enjoyed trying to identify the aspects of his work as outlined by the guide - funny how everyone sees something different. We took morning tea in the cafe and watched people run, walk their dogs and even cross country ski around Central Park in the snow!
We then dropped into my favourite thrift shop - but not much on offer so we traded shopping for a s
ushi lunch - still love the warm sweet potato nori rolls! Tonight we were expecting to dine with our good friend Miriam Mindich but unfortunately her flight has been delayed. Still we’ll catch her for breakfast tomorrow morning while Sue and Hans do the One World Trade Centre. Doing that memorial once was enough for me.
