6/3/13 – Sauers and Sindens do the Two Mets

Met Hans and Sue at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. They did the Director’s Tour, Peter did Indian Art and I did the ‘Impressionism, Fashion and Modernity’ Exhibition. How glorious it was to see the art, the dress and see how fashion and art reflected the spirit of this age. I also enjoyed learning of Emile Zola’s thoughts on the emerging confidence of the middle class woman through her access to fashion. We had a delightful lunch at the Member’s Dining Room before dispatching the boys to the Mens Wear House shop while Sue and I went to the Met Shop!
We met up with Hans and Sue later for cocktails at their hotel before stepping out to see Don Carlos at the Metropolitan Opera at the Lincoln Centre. We looked sensational in our finery as we not only enjoyed the opera set in the harsh times of the Spanish Empire under King Philip and the Inquisition but also feasted, during the two intervals, at the Met’s Grand Tier Dining Room. Great night with good friends!
