25/5/13 – Housekeeping

After our recent adventures we decided to attend to the domestics today and do the gym, shopping and cleaning. While working out on a stepper at the gym I learnt that iPhone theft in the US is a big problem and that the manufacturer is dragging its profitable little feet as regards incorporating improved security componentry in their product. It seems that US iPhones sales last year totalled $69 billion. In NYC 14% of reported crime is iPhone or iPad theft.

And there seems little chance for reducing the trend. Recently a snapshot of the scale of the ‘redistribution’ was highlighted when a theft ring in California was nabbed. It is reported that, every two weeks these guys were selling over $500,000 worth of stolen iPhones, either at flea markets in and around Oakland or by having the stolen phones shipped overseas to waiting customers in Mexico, Vietnam or China.
