Today Pope Benedict XVI has announced that he is stepping down at the end of this month. The papers here, like many elsewhere in the world, have expressed genuine surprise if not disbelief. Why will he not hold on and die in office like all the other Popes – or is there more to the story? I will have to ask Hans Sauer for the inside angle as I hear his uncle is one of the cardinals in Rome. [ps. we can’t wait for Hans and Sue to arrive here in early March. We have so many great things planned.]
In preparation for the Sauer’s arrival, I had a big workout at the gym today but Peter stayed at home as he has a cold – sorry ‘man flu’! Guess the new boots came too late to save his health. The skies are still grey and foggy but people seem happy enough to be back at work after a big weather weekend.
Most of the chatter on the West Coast today was about the Grammys. No one seemed to like the combination of the old guard with the newbies but the young have always been nurtured by the masters so what’s the problem here? The NY Times critic slammed Elton John and Sting but they looked and sounded great to me and the combination performances were huge!
Most of the top awards went to Brits and an Australian anyway! So suck it up Jon Caramanica, not everyone likes hip hop and duff-duff rappers! And I’m so glad Jennifer Lopez got the memo about the required dress standards. Where did Katy Perry find those perfect little puppies and would someone please tell Taylor Swift to eat something. ps I still don’t trust John Mayer!
But enough of this frivolous West Coast drivel … back on the East Coast today all the talk was about chairman Thomas H. Bradley III and the 137th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show which is currently being held here in NYC. 
More than 2,700 prized dogs are on display at this annual canine competition with the Russell terrier and the Treeing Walker Coonhound introduced into the contest for the first time.
I couldn’t get enough of the drama and the atmosphere! Love those perfect little puppies – perhaps this is where Katy Perry got hers from??
Had a yarn with Ratty ( cardinal Ratzinger alias head honcho of the Petrine ministry)he's just fed up with all this discussion about gay marriage, gay priests, and other happy issues confronting the church. Plus he's got terrible arthritis and a bung knee too. The heatwave is over, the aussies lost their 20 - 20 to the windies last night, Force are in melbourne - I do hope Pete has found a Bar where we can watch some super rugby.
