Aloha
After we signed off last night we wandered down to the foreshore and had dinner at Duke’s. Duke Paoa Kahinu Mokoe Hulikohola Kahanamoku (August 24, 1890 – January 22, 1968) was an American competition swimmer who was also known as an actor, lawman, early beach volleyball player and businessman credited with spreading the sport of surfing. Kahanamoku was a five-time Olympic medalist in swimming. And he was very cool. The steaks were amazing and went perfectly with a smooth Zinfandel from the Sonoma Valley.
Fact: The sand on Waikiki Beach is from Australia and Japanese tourists are happy to queue for ages if someone told them ‘Eggs and Stuff’ was a great restaurant.
The expedition took in the north shore where Jurassic Park was filmed and the Triple Crown is currently being contested between Joel Parkinson (Coolangatta), Kelly Slater and Mick Fanning (Tweed Heads). the competition is currently at Benzai Pipeline but we also took in Sunset Beach and Waimea Bay. As you can tell from the photos no big wave competitions today!
The Dole Pineapple Factory that at one time supplied 90% of the world’s pineapple took us back to our childhoods on the Sunshine Coast at the Big Pineapple. Good to see Peter got in with swing of being a tourist. Finished the day at a wonderful Italian place with more steak and Zinfandel.
