Today I met with Jessica Baldenhofer, the Education Officer @MoMA. We had a great discussion about the use of new technology to connect to learners and in particular ipad app initiatives at MoMA both in the educational and family divisions. MoMA uses pre, during and post visit programs to enhance the understanding of art by its young visitors and their teachers or parents. They have also been using a virtual forum to connect learners who can’t physically visit the museum due to disability, economics or geography. I liked the way they do the ‘gallery conversations’ and use visual stimulus to engage the learner, help him articulate what he’s seeing, use his prior knowledge to explain and be able to justify what he’s seeing and then articulate his opinions both verbally and in a written forum to the other students on line.
The other MoMA program we discussed was creativity and innovation using technology. She has worked with students to define a ‘problem’ and look at ways design as solution using the latest in technology or even create a solution that has no current technology – a wish list of great things that will come to be. Jessica and I ended our meeting very excited about the prospect of working together to expand the ‘pool’ of learners in this current program.
Met Ball to launch of the new show ‘Punk: Chaos to Couture’ was on tonight. I’m not sure where my invitation went, but I suspect it was sent to Perth rather than E72nd so Cinderella didn’t get to go punk. From what I see, those who did choose to look ‘punk’ had a great time especially on the red carpet.
It’s official – men’s fashion has a new craze here in the US. I have seen them on TV in California but saw my first two live ones in the street today. Young 20 something guys in designer suits with ankle trousers and expensive dress shoes but no socks!
